01. put the skids under, to
定义: 造成衰败, 失败.
例句: Her frequent absences from work put the skids under any hopes she had of a promotion. (她的经常旷职令她任何升迁的希望都渺茫)

02. put the squeeze on, to
定义: 向某人施压; 向某人勒索钱财; 给某人制造问题或挑战.
例句: The mob put the squeeze on all the merchants, threatening to break their windows if they didn't pay. (这些黑帮份子勒索所有商家的钱财, 威胁他们如果不给钱的话就砸破他们的窗户)
