1. 更远处, 另一端:
The office is two blocks past the intersection. (办公室是在穿越十字路口之后两条街道以外的另一端)
Turn left just past the stairs. (左转再越过楼梯就到了)

2. 略过, 经过:
We drove past the house. (我们开车经过这栋房子)
I must have walked right past her. (我们一定是从她身边走过)
He looked past me to the next customer. (他略过我看下一个客户)

3. 过了某时间, 在某时间之后:
We need to leave by half past two. [=2:30] (我们必须要在两点半之前离开)
It was past [=after, (Brit) gone] five o'clock by the time we got home. (过了五点钟我们才回到家)
It's past his bedtime. (这已过了他平常就寝时间)
The bill is past due. [=it is late; it should have been paid before now] (这个账单过期未付)

4a. 超过某年龄:
Now that he is past 60, he's thinking about retiring. (他已过六十岁, 他正在考虑退休)

4b. 超越某年龄该做的事:
She is past playing with dolls. (她已然过了玩玩具娃娃的年龄)

5. 超过某一时点, 时机点:
The milk is past its expiration date. (这瓶牛奶已经过期)
The daffodils are past blooming. (这盆水仙花已经超过开花时间)
They tried marriage counseling, but they were already past the point of reconciling. (他们曾试着婚姻辅导, 但他们已经过了和解的时机)
The house is a mess, but she is past caring. [=she doesn't care] (这间房间乱七八糟, 但是她已经不在乎了)
As a singer, he is past his prime. [=he is no longer as good at singing as he once was] (做为一为歌手, 他已经过了他的全盛时期)

自从…之后:
I haven't seen him since yesterday. (自从昨天之后我还没看到他)
I haven't eaten since breakfast. (自从早餐之后我还没吃东西)
Since the party, she has not spoken to him at all. (自从派对之后, 她根本还没跟他讲过话)
The company has been in its present location since the beginning of the century. (自从本世纪初这家公司就一直留在现址)
We've been waiting for you since 10 o'clock. (自从十点钟我们一直在等你)
We have been friends since [=ever since] college. (我们从大学起就一直是朋友)
The company started as a small local business 10 years ago and has grown a lot since then. [=within that time] (这家公司在十年前就开始本地生意而且自此大幅成长)
The house was built in 1919. Since that time [=from 1919 to the present], it has changed owners several times. (这栋房屋是在一九一九年建成. 自此之后, 屋主曾换手数次)
